Abstract (CPANDA): The Study of Jazz Artists 2001 collected data on the working and living situations of jazz musicians in four cities -- New York, San Francisco, New Orleans, and Detroit. In each city, two surveys were conducted: a conventional random sample of musicians belonging to the American Federation of Musicians (AFM) and a "respondent-driven sample" (RDS) of jazz musicians.
